“Kanye West’s wife” is a “pornographic symbol” says Kikar HaShabbat editor
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian recently visited Jerusalem to have baby North baptised. They also met with the city’s Mayor on their visit, Nir Barkat, who shared a photo of their meeting on his Facebook page – with the caption:
“Toasting to Jerusalem with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West! I asked them to be ambassadors of Jerusalem and spread the word that Jerusalem is an open city and welcomes everyone.”
However Kim Kardashian was cut out of the picture when news of the meeting was covered on Kikar HaShabbat. The ultra-orthodox Israeli website blurred out the former sex-tape “star” by first covering her up with a receipt and then pixelating her.
To further etch out her presence at the meeting, they referred to her as “Kanye West’s wife,” although the Mayor’s spouse was also referred to as “his wife.” Nissim Ben Haim, an editor at the Kikar HaShabbat website, stated Kim Kardashian was cut out of the picture because she is a “pornographic symbol,” and contradicts the websites ultra-orthodox values. Ultra-orthodox communities often do not show pictures of women out of modesty.
The article on Kikar HaShabbat criticsed Nir Barkart for dining with the pair in a restaurant which opens on the Jewish Sabbath and serves non-kosher dishes. The receipt lists dishes
just as blasphemous as Kim Kardashian that mix meat and dairy products (buttered chicken au gratin).
Part of the article translates: “Insensitivity: Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and his wife hosted last night (Monday) the singer Kanye West and his wife visiting Israel at non-kosher foods in the capital, while lack of consideration for most residents kosher minded.”
