Azealia Banks’ Dazed & Confused, candy-coloured condom controversy
Overtly sexual, Azealia Banks makes no exceptions and certainly no apologies for her blasé nature but Dazed & Confused magazine’s choice of the female lyricist for the September issue front cover, has resulted in it being banned in seven countries – before it even hit the stands!
The front cover shows Miss Banks blowing up what the magazine called, ‘this season’s must-have accessory: an inflated raspberry-coloured condom’.
The cover ‘has been deemed too risqué by authorities in Singapore, Dubai, Malta, Switzerland, India and Thailand’.
After finding out it had been banned in seven countries, Dazed & Confused tweeted ‘Just been told our upcoming
@AZEALIABANKS cover has been banned from 7 countries so far. Thank God for the Internet, huh?’
Well there’s plenty of other countries for the magazine to be sold and I’m sure after the candy-coloured condom controversy, the pick-up rate of September’s Dazed & Confused issue will definitely rise.
The pun-inspired headline reads ‘Azealia Banks Blows Up’. This is true in more ways than one; Azealia is really blowing up and she knows it – possibly that perfectly aligned middle finger is a message to her haters and everyone who doubted.
Azealia Banks and Diplo Crash the Dance Party…
Azealia also graced the cover of VIBE this month alongside music producer, Diplo. Looking ever so eloquent on the cover, Banks’ trademark attitude was still present in her interview – ‘I’m not some little light-skinned bitch out here.
It’s a young Black girl doing this for herself, by herself. Y’all can’t keep trying to pin me up against the wall. Hip-hop has to help me not let this slip through my hands,’ she told VIBE. Read her cover story here.
Here Comes Azealia Banks…
She’s definitely September’s magazine cover queen. Azealia has also banked the cover of the ‘fully flossed-out September/October “Look” issue’ of SPIN. The magazine was ‘granted unprecedented access, hanging with Ms. Banks in New York, settling down to chat at her new home in Los Angeles, and spending an afternoon strolling around Disneyland, to get the uncut backstory that lead to her burst of blog-fame, her embrace by designers from Karl Lagerfeld to Alexander Wang, and her rise to the verge of pop stardom’. The magazine will be available from August 28 but for now you can have a little look at photos from Azealia Banks’ SPIN cover shoot.
